September....thus far

I definitely need my hand slapped for what a bad blogger I have been lately, but honestly, there just really hasn’t been too much going on. Just the normal day to day living. Of course, that doesn’t stop me from taking lots of pics of my little Stella girl, so I’ll just share September so far through some pics!

Throwback

I came across some pictures from when Blake and I were dating. Most of these pictures were taken either when Blake was home on leave from the Navy or in San Marcos. But, they bring back great memories, so I thought I’d share!

{Christmas 2006}

Blake and I “officially” started dating around Christmas 2006 when he was home for a few weeks from Japan. He left to go back to Japan right before New Year’s, but was back less than a month later when we found out Greg {his dad} had to have open heart surgery. This allowed Blake to be home another month and we didn’t have to do the “long distance” thing.

[January 2007- Blake shaved his head in a mohawk for his dad's surgery}
Then, in February 2007 he went back to Japan {again} and  got out of the Navy May of that year. We spent EVERY weekend together as Blake would make the 4 hour drive down to San Marcos to visit me from Dallas as I was taking a crazy load of classes to finish up my degree in Healthcare Administration so that I could move back to Dallas in the fall and do my internship that was required for graduation.

We were engaged by December of that year and married in May 2008. I absolutely LOVE looking back at these pictures and that special time in our lives!

Dove Season

Well, in keeping with tradition {who’s tradition? I’m not really sure} we went dove hunting over Labor Day weekend since it was  the opening of dove season on September 1st. I cannot shoot a moving target to save my life, so I was only out there for the thrill of the action…except it was more like the lack of action. I was really hoping to have some dove to be able to grill when we got back home with some jalapeno, bacon, and cheese – but we only shot one.

Blake had gone Saturday evening and there seemed to be more dove than on Monday morning, but I just like hanging with Blake, so I had fun! My dad, our pastor, and his two sons joined us. I felt so bad because there were seriously less than 15 dove that flew over us the entire couple hours we were out there, but I think everyone still had a good time!

Stella had stayed the night with my parents Sunday night so that I could get up at 6am {on my day off} and not worry about waking her up or having to have someone come over early and watch her. AND that meant I got to do a little horseback riding Sunday night, too! As soon as we left the field after hunting Monday morning, Blake and I went to Ballard Street Café and had some breakfast and then went and picked Stella up. Then, we had a relaxing rest of our Labor Day!

Stella + Terryl

Over Labor Day weekend, Stella and I got to visit with one of my friends from high school, Audrey, and her little cutie, Terryl! I’ve been able to see Terryl “grow up” through Instagram and Audrey’s blog since they live in Nevada {the state, not the city I live in!}, but it was so fun actually getting to meet him AND to be able to let Stella and Terryl play together.

Both kiddo’s LOVED Terryl’s ball pit and I’ve definitely decided this is a toy Stella HAS to have. The little girl does not do dolls or babies – she is all about balls and ropes! They played on Terryl’s little 4-wheeler and his wooden horses. Although at first I think they were a little wary of each other – they warmed up eventually and Stella had so much fun playing!

I hope to have more play dates with Terryl and Audrey when they visit again! Thanks Audrey and Terryl for playing with us!

{This is the most unflattering picture of me - but it's the only one I have of all 4 of us!}

Completely Dependent on Him

While I’ve always wanted this blog to be about the awesome blessings in the lives of my little family {which I could spend pages and pages counting those blessings and am so thankful for each of them}, I also want to be real and so I am using this post as a sort of a “journal-entry” where I can look back at a certain day/phase of life and see God’s hand so clearly working even when I don’t have the capacity to understand His timing and His plan now.

I’ve never been really good at eloquently expressing myself and I have so many more thoughts in my head than what I could pen down, but a couple posts ago I mentioned how I had a disappointing kind of week. Without getting into details {although most of this does have to do with the selling of our house and my job situation, among a couple other things}, God has just really been showing me that He truly has a plan and He is sovereign. He gives and He takes away. He is never early and never late. Although my feeble mind tries to comprehend Him, I never will. I’m finally reaching a point where I’m starting to better understand surrender. Surrender to Him. All my plans are just that - they’re mine and may not be His.

It’s easy to get discouraged when my plan of how I think things should happen doesn’t go my way or at least in the time frame that I think things should happen. But, I can trust the Lord that He is good and He will work things out for His good AND ultimately my good. I’ve been so thankful to begin to rest in His peace and that He knows what’s best for me and my family.

In preparation for this semester of our small groups at church, I’ve begun reading the book we’ll be studying, “The Circle Maker” by Mark Batterson. Each fall, our church does a study on the same book in our small groups, while our spring semester is more interest-based. Our Pastor will preach on Sunday’s this fall in line with what we’re learning in the book and then we go more in depth in our small groups. Just from the first several chapters of this book, I’m so encouraged and know this is exactly what I’m needing. Its teaching me to continue to pray big, bold prayers about my dreams and to continue to have the faith to seek Him even when my circumstances don’t seem to line up with my plans. {If you can’t tell by the number of times I’ve said “my plans” – I’m pretty type A. So giving control over doesn’t come easy!}

Like I said – I have SO much to be thankful for and it would probably be obnoxious to list them all here. And I am in no way neglecting what God has done and continues to do for us. I am in awe of His mercy, grace, and love for us.

So, in hopes that you may draw some inspiration from a couple of these quotes from the first couple chapters of this book, I’m going to share some that really encouraged me to continue praying and seeking Him!

“Bold prayers honor God, and God honors bold prayers.”
“God isn’t offended by your biggest dreams or boldest prayers…If your prayers aren’t impossible to you, they are insulting to God. Why? Because they don’t require divine intervention.”
“There is nothing God loves more than keeping promises, answering prayers, performing miracles, and fulfilling dreams. That is who He is. That is what He does.”

And just for good measure - here is  a pic of my little sweetheart! Could not be more thankful for her!

Friday Night Lights

It's football season! I was never a huge fan of football before Blake and I got married, but since we watch so much of it, I figured I better start paying attention and figure out what this game is about...and now I love it! Or maybe I just love everything that surrounds it ;)

Blake's cousin is a senior this year at Community High School and plays football, which is also the highschool that Blake, his parents, his grandparents, etc graduated from so we went to cheer on his cousin at the game Friday night.

Stella is a natural at cheering for football games - she loved the crowd, the band, the cheerleaders, and pointing her finger and babbling at the football players. Cutest thing I've ever seen. I think we'll definitely have to be taking her back to most of the home games!
